[백남준] 1974년 록펠러 재단에 낸 인터넷 제안서

백남준은 1974년 록펠러 재단(Rockefeller Foundation)에서 인터넷(전자초고속도로) 프로젝트 제안서를 내면서 이렇게 말했다. 물론 여기서 백남준 예술기금을 좀 받았다. "새로운 전자 고속도로 건설은 더 큰 사업이 될 것이다. 대륙 위성, 도파관, 동축 케이블 및 레이저 빔 광섬유를 통해 강력한 전송 범위에서 작동하는 전자 통신 네트워크를 통해 뉴욕과 LA를 연결한다고 가정하면 지출은 약 부산물에 대한 혜택이 더 크다는 점을 제외하고는 달 착륙과 동일한 것이다"

<원문> ‘The building of new electronic super highways will become an even huger enterprise. Assuming we connect New York with Los Angeles by means of an electronic telecommunication network that operates in strong transmission ranges, as well as with continental satellites, wave guides, bundled coaxial cable, and later also via laser beam fiber optics: the expenditure would be about the same as for a Moon landing, except that the benefits in term of by-products would be greater.’
