Featuring an important set of fourteen new works, Lee Ufan’s solo exhibition will be presented at Alyscamps, a large Roman necropolis located outside the walls of Arles, France. Famous as the place where Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin visited together to paint side by side, the Alyscamps demonstrates the richness of Roman culture. For this exhibition, curated by Alfred Pacquement, the former director of the National Museum of Modern Art, Centre Pompidou, Lee Ufan has respectfully transformed the ancestral site with his sculptures and paintings; each of his works enter into a dialogue with the ancient sarcophagi that dot the city of the dead, aligned on the path leading to the Romanesque Church of Saint Honorat.

이우환(@ufanlee)의 주요 신작 14점을 선보이는 개인전이 로마인들의 독특한 무덤 문화가 담긴 고대 공동묘지, 프랑스 아를 알리스캉(Arles les Alyscamps)에서 2022년 9월까지 전시된다. 이 곳은 고흐와 고갱이 만나 같이 그림을 그렸던 일화로 유명하다. 퐁피두센터 국립 근대미술관 관장을 역임한 큐레이터 알프레드 파퀴망(Alfred Pacquement)의 기획과 함께, 이우환은 석관이 늘어서 있는 골목과 로마네스크 양식의 생토노레 교회에 조각과 회화 작업을 채워 넣음으로써 조상의 숨결이 느껴지는 알리스캉을 더욱 아름답게 장식했다.
